As you weave through the city of Toronto to find the newest spots where foodies are flocking to, it can be easy to forget that there are city staples that deserve the same love too.
Just a few blocks east of Yonge Street sits a modest gelato and pizza bar, G for Gelato, that can be easily overlooked if you aren’t familiar with the neighbourhood. Admittedly, I am guilty of walking by this place a million times and never stopping inside despite the numerous recommendations from my friends.
I recently made it a point to visit this neighbourhood sweet spot and was pleasantly surprised by the tasty food options and absolutely, divine gelato. G for Gelato provides patrons with a great selection of paninis, pizzas and salads at very reasonable prices with quick and friendly service.
The gelato selections are absolutely unbelievable as they aren’t afraid to experiment with flavours while delivering the the freshest gelato in the city.
Feeling adventurous? Coconut Basil, Lavender Blueberry, Rose Water Vanilla, Tequila Mojito, Smokey Caramel Whisky are some of the different flavours you can tickle your tongue with.
Want to add a little bit of fun? PB&J, Salted Caramel, KitKat, Nutella, Kinder Chocolate, Smores, Cinnamon Toast Crunch and more!
Looking to be transported back to Europe? Tiramisu, Pistachio, Stracciatella, Almond Stracciatella, Espresso are some of the few inspirational offerings.
Taking a more traditional and comfortable approach, there are many flavourful options to satisfy anyone’s craving from the basic Chocolate, Vanilla, Strawberry to more exotic flavours of Lychee and Coconut.
They offer single, double or triple flavours but remember, to ask for their recommendations too. When trying the flavour combos, ensure that you find a good pairing or flavour combo to truly enjoy the experience!
What did we have?
+ Maialina Pizza (tomato sauce, mozzarella, spicy italian sausage, spicy soppressatta, fresh basil)
+ Caesar Salad
+ Blueberry Lavender & Vanilla Rose Water Gelato
+ London Fog (Earl Grey) Gelato
To be honest, the focus of this trip was to try this amazing gelato but it didn’t hurt to grab a bite to eat either. Light in volume for the food, but volume for the gelato was unreal! Freshly made thin crust pizza was tasty and quite satisfying and can’t go wrong with a little bit of guilty greens via the caesar salad 😉
After tasting at least a dozen of the flavours, we finally settled on the more unique and less than traditional offerings you would find at other places. Pairing Blueberry Lavendar with Vanilla Rose Water and of course, the solo cup of London Fog were great choices as it was a perfect balance of sweet and floral. Certainly a pleasant treat and fabulous finale before our walk home 🙂
