Hard work ethic is something that is not foreign for surfer, Erwin de Visser. Grinding out his days at school from 8am until 4pm then heading to his after-school job, working until midnight. When does this Netherlands' based surfer have time to surf? He makes the time and takes advantage of what he has at his disposal allowing him to surf all year around. The waves are pretty inconsistent due to the windy weather but when the days are good, his surf days are out of this world. His work ethic is applied in the water as well, his love of cold water surfing keeps his passion for surfing going as he feels that every wave is that much more rewarding given the additional energy and dedication spent.

How did you get into surfing?
Surfing became an addiction for me about 6 years ago, a few of my classmates surfed and it looked pretty cool. I ended up buying an old 6'0" shortboard and a worn-out 3/2mm wetsuit from a friend as motivation for me to get out to catch my first waves.
Those first waves felt like a dream as I glided through the water with exhilaration. After that, I knew I was in love and went out to surf as much as possible. Due to my busy schedule, I don't have a lot of time to get out to surf. I do my best to surf all that I can on weekends or holidays whether it's at home or going on surf trips with a few good friends.
Can you give us an idea of what your typical meals in a day would be?
Water temperatures vary here but isn't too bad (for me) as we have mild winters (2C) and cool summers (18C) which are temperatures that I am comfortable surfing in. It may be a bit cold for others, but I love the cold water surfing!
I love a steaming bowl of freshly cooked oatmeal, protein shakes, fruit (nature's candy), and a lot of rice, bread and pastas.
Do you do any stretches or exercises pre- or post-surf?
I go out and mimick surf-specific movements to get me ready for the surf session.
When I'm not surfing, I like to longboard, skimboard, skateboard and my other love, motor biking.
What do you you grab for a post-surf snack?
Bananas and a protein shake.
What's your favourite gear?
I'm never without my GoPro camera for photos and video, 3/2 for the summer, 4/3 for the autumn, 5/4 during the winter and love my hypto krypto hybrid shortboard. I also have a few high performance shortboards from Nigel Semmens and Haydenshapes.
