What do you do when you have a vacation hang over? Start planning your next trip? Immerse yourself in travel blogs? Scan through your travel pictures with a hot cup of tea? Find a local spot that will bring you back to those happy memories? I’ll be honest, I do all of them.
When I think of Chile, I get a warm, fuzzy feeling as it reminds me of family, kindness and love. My experience in Chile was fantastic as I was able to stay with a friend and her incredibly welcoming family. They all graciously welcomed me into their homes and gave me the local experience. One of my highlights was in Los Andes, where I was able to snack on empanadas, sip wine and able to appreciate the beauty and tranquility of the Andean foothills.
Kensington Market in Toronto has a cozy Chilean spot called Jumbo Empanadas located at 245 Augusta Avenue. This is one of the places in the city where I get my Latin American food fix. The prices are incredibly reasonable, the simple yet authentic food selection is served at a small room decorated with Chilean trinkets.
On a summer’s day, you may be able to sneak a spot on their patio set-up with a few tables and a view of Augusta Ave. This rustic Chilean café is a perfect spot to grab a quick bite before you continue exploring the unique boutiques and shoppes of Kensington Market.
Given that I am a creature of habit, I enjoy my well-seasoned beef empanada that also has pieces of hard boiled egg inside the piping hot pocket. As I munch through, I tend to add my pico de gallo just to say that I did have some veg with my meal 😉 Don’t be shy, swing by and whether it’s an empanada, humita or a corn pie – it will be sure to satisfy for your taste buds. Even better, you can pair your meal with a cerveza, cup of vino tinto or the addictively sweet, Inca cola.
