Local Eats: Find The Red Bench and Beat the Heat

redbenchSummer in the city of Toronto is always fun and there is always something for everyone. Whether it’s hanging out at a patio with friends and enjoying a pint, checking out the numerous festivals, catching a catnap at Bell Trinity Park, soaking in the sun at one of our many beaches or grabbing a sweet treat to beat the summer heat.

The Red Bench is one of my favourite spots to grab an ice cream sandwich (aka sammy). This cute organic cookie and froyo shoppe is located at 611 Yonge Street,  a few blocks south of Bloor, and is a must for local and travelling foodies. There is no doubt that you will be lured in and hypnotized by the sweet aromas of baking cookies.

IMG_6150This sweet shoppe has a simple set up with a few white bistro sets and a breakfast bar for its customers. So, whether you are enjoying a custom made sammy, taking a spoonful of one of their delicious organic frozen yogurts piled high with toppings or sipping on one of their 30+ organic teas – it is worth the trip.

The beauty is that Red Bench is committed to using local, all natural and organic ingredients in their cookie batter and frozen yogurt. You can taste the love and care in their treats and I have to say, I have always had a positive customer experience.

The epic sammy is what always has me coming back.

IMG_6151It comes in a half or whole order, and to be honest, I have never had a whole one as it looks massive. However, your customized ice cream sandwich is your choice of cookie, ice cream and one dressing.

I’m a sucker for the s’mores cookie with the white chocolate raspberry (or chocolate) ice cream with roasted almonds. Imagine ending your day with cold, creamy ice cream sandwiched between two pieces of freshly baked gourmet cookie, topped with crunchy chopped roasted almonds. How amazing does that sound? Take the trip to this lovely shoppe, and find your perfect combo!
